Who doesn’t enjoy traveling? It does not matter if you are traveling near or far. Have you been thinking about planning a vacation? You can use this guide to assist you in travel planning. So without further delay… let’s get started.
Planning for Travel.
There are several websites and travel agents that can assist you with your trip. My upcoming Disney Vacation has been the only vacation that we used a travel agent for. I use various sources and techniques when it comes to booking and planning for vacations. Here is a checklist of things to consider when planning for and booking a trip.
Use Google and Pinterest to help determine your vacation destination. Gain insight and background knowledge of various destinations. Use these search engines to find the best place for your travel ideas. Read about others’ experiences, and determine whether this would be the best location for you. Simply use the stems, “best destinations for families” or “adult vacations”. Use whatever terms are suitable for your traveling arrangements.
The mode of transportation.
Next, you should determine how you will arrive to your destination. Are you going to make it an adventurous road trip? If you will take this route, then you should use car rental companies, especially if you will be traveling long distances. Personally, I prefer booking through Budget or Enterprise. Research the best rental rates, and look for coupon codes to assist you with savings. Find the best rate suitable for your budget, and book. Most companies will provide additional savings when you pay when booking. Not only will your wallet appreciate the savings, but you will enjoy the breeze of picking up your rental.
Would you prefer to catch a flight? There are several tricks and tips that can be used when booking flights. The best time to look for flights are on Tuesdays at 2:30 p.m. Another tip when you are simply scouting sights is to look in a private browsing option. Most updated browsers will give you this option in the settings. When you book in private browsing, it protects you from elevated pricing if you return to the website. Often times it is believed that you save the most money when booking through sites like Expedia or Orbitz. However, sometimes you find the best deals booking directly through airline websites. I tend to book flights through Southwest and United. They, to me, have provided the best deals and service.
Will you be going on a cruise? Cruises are a popular means of traveling, because it is the transportation, accommodations, and activities all-in-one. I have a water phobia, so I cannot tell of you of the best cruises by experience. For families, there is the Disney Cruise Line. For the best cruise line options, check out Travel U.S. News.
There are several accommodation options for various vacation destinations now. While hotels still remain to be the main travel accommodation, house, condo, and apartment rentals are becoming more popular. A lot of travelers enjoy using Air BNB as a resource for home and apartment rentals. When it comes to booking hotels, the same concept for the flights can apply to hotels. It can be a risk booking through sites such as Expedia, and sometimes they really grant the best deals. Sometimes there might be a better deal booking through the hotel websites. Also, it can be a huge risk to wait until closer to the vacation to book the hotels.
After determining the above factors, you should begin planning some activities for the trip. That, however, does not mean that you should plan every minute of everyday. You should always plan for spontaneity and give yourself time to rest. Things may go wrong, and when you plan every minute, it can become overwhelming. Sometimes it is best to go with the flow.
Packing for the Trip.
There is a viral video that has gone around with folding a large variety of clothes into a carry-on size bag. I bought a Victoria’s Secret Pink rolling carry-on bag, and that has proven to give me such relief when traveling. I recommend rolling carry on luggage in line with the airline size regulations. Personally, I am not a fan of duffle bags, because they hurt my shoulders. The convenience of the rolling bags allow for me to breeze past the check-in stations, and allows for me to walk straight out of the airport from the plane. Here are a few tips for packing for your trip.
- Make a checklist of outfits, supplies, and anything that you are traveling with.
- Buy several sealed plastic bags and make them your best friends. Place your daily outfits in their own back to save space and organize the bag.
- To save space in the bag, you may roll your clothing and stack them neatly.
- If you are not wrapping your shoes in plastic bags, place your shoes in the bottom of the bag. You do not want any dirt from the bottom of the shoes on top of the clothing, so place them below.
- Make sure to place your TSA- certified amount of liquids into appropriate clear small bags. Have these in hand when it is time to walk through airport security to save time.
- Pack as light as possible. Try to save space for items that you may purchase during your vacation.
Airport and Traveling Tips.
Going through the airport can either be an easy or a frustrating process. However, there are several things that you can do ahead of time to ease the stress. First thing is to make sure to have your ID(s) and ticket(s) in your hand to save time. Place your electronics in your purse, or in a convenient front pocket of your bag until you pass through security. You will have to place them in their own bins, and you can save time from having to dig through your bag. Bring your own snacks, just make sure that the packaging complies with TSA standards.
Check in 24 hours before your flight, and some companies allow for a priority early check in. Make sure to carry a portable charger. It may be difficult finding an outlet for your phone to be charged. Lastly, make sure to check flight status before leaving for the airport. If your flight is delayed for 3 hours, or cancelled, you do not want to make a blank trip. Look out for any notifications regarding your flight.
Preparing to Return.
The checklist will come back into play when packing for the return trip. The same rules of packing and going through the airport applies. Have tickets and ID ready, have electronics on hand, and check the flight status ahead of time.
Now’s the right time to book a trip, and say yes to another adventure. Now is the time to take matters into your own hands. You can plan a vacation that caters to your needs and wants. Enjoy!0
