First off, I have a love/hate relationship with the word “sexy”. However, in this case, it doesn’t make me cringe as much. You may be wondering… what makes me say that being happy is sexy? Why do I care about being happy or sexy? Well… I’m delighted that you asked. This post is dedicated to helping you find your happiness. Get your sexy on!
Happy Is Sexy Because It’s Contagious!
Have you ever had a bad day, and came across someone with GREAT energy? When you tell them your problems, they see the light in the situation(s). (In a not so annoying way.) They are filled with so much excitement and energy that it makes you smile. Or, they see you’re feeling down, and they go out of their way to make you smile or laugh.
Gosh, I love people like this! They uplift my spirit. They help me realize that things could be worse, and it takes more energy to stay upset.
When you’re in the presence of great energy, you can lose track of time. You feel free and light. Laughs are abundant. Smiles are contagious. Breathing is smooth, and your heart isn’t working double-time. Once you’re feeling light and refreshed, you become willing to spread your happiness to others. We always hear about misery loving company, but so does happiness.
Happy is Sexy Because It Makes You More Approachable!
Sometimes I am guilty of holding a not-so-approachable facial expression, especially when I’m in public. However, most of the time, I can be caught with an involuntary smile on my face. By involuntary, I mean completely natural, without me knowing. Honestly, sometimes I have to consciously not smile. Otherwise, there’s this natural smile/smirk on my face.
Sometimes people smile back at me. I’m able to get better service. People feel okay approaching me and starting random conversations. It can, also, lead to wonderful networking opportunities for me. Don’t get me wrong, some environments do not call for smiles and perkiness.
On the other hand, do be conscious about your facial expressions. There’s a light/glow that emits from people who are truly happy. People are attracted to that glow. Be the glow! Let the happiness and glow take over.
Happy is Sexy Because It Turns Things Around!
I had a previous post about smiling. It sounds cheesy, but it’s not, because it talks about it leading you down a path to positivity. Almost every good thing has led to a smile from me. What about when things are going wrong? What about when you’re in pain? You will need to grin through it and push past it.
Smiling can take a dull, grey situation and bring out the bright, bold, and beautiful colors in it. Smiling can allow you to find some positivity in negativity. It changes your mindset and makes you conscious of turning things around.
There’s a power in allowing yourself to be happy. Treat yo’self! Whatever it is that makes you happy, allow yourself to indulge in it. Grant yourself permission to TRULY be happy. Make an effort to TRY to be happy, even if you’re in a dark time.
Don’t worry about faking it, making up your mind will bring true happiness. Things are bound to be better when you have a happy attitude. Things tend to go your way. Life just seems better and brighter.
Happy is Sexy Because It Makes You Look Better!
Let’s address the elephant in the room. You’ve been waiting for me to talk about looks… I understand. When we hear the word sexy, we think about outer appearances. I get it!
However, there’s more to being sexy than being cute on the outside. How are you internally? That’s what makes people more/less attractive to me. A cute face + ugly personality = Ugly person standing before me.
I once had a gentleman tell me that I’ll look even prettier if I smiled. (Mind you, it’s like 8:00 at night, at a gas station, in downtown Atlanta. I had a throat infection. As a normal person, I obviously wouldn’t be sporting a smile when I’m in pain and discomfort.)
While I didn’t smile then, I have been smiling since. (He made me conscious of my facial expressions.) Why? Because smiling makes me happy. Smiling makes me attractive. Smiling makes me like me. It makes me like others. If it makes me happy, then it only makes sense for me to continue to do it, right? Absolutely!
Marilyn Monroe once said, “a smile is the best thing that a girl can wear.” She was right. While I love my red lips, my smile is my favorite beauty enhancer. I’d like to add on to that quote. A smile and happiness are the best things that anyone can wear. If you haven’t caught on already, here’s my formula: smile → be happy → be sexy!
What’s the Take-Away?
Get your sexy back and wear your happiness on your sleeves! It is my hope that somewhere in here, you have been convinced to accept happiness. This goes beyond physical appearances. Happiness affects your mental health, Spiritual well-being, and mindset.
